I Be Black Girl
“If we do not center the people most impacted and who have the lived experience, we will perpetuate the same harm we seek to end.” Based in the heart of Omaha, Nebraska, I Be Black Girl focuses on policy and power building, Black-led investments, birth justice, and economic justice.
The Early Childhood Power Equity Fund is investing $10 million in the unsung heroes who fight for the kids and families in their communities.
Our funding strategy
The Power Equity Fund is proud to join a growing movement of innovative funders who are redefining success in the field of philanthropy. Instead of traditional funding practices that can sometimes replicate power dynamics in communities, we turn our trust and resources towards leaders who are organizing to end practices that perpetuate unequal outcomes.
Power Equity Theory of Change
-
The Current Situation
Parents and those who care for young children know what they need, but they lack the resources to organize and join the conversations where they can offer solutions.
-
Our Approach
Funding these groups well and sustainably changes everything. We resource these organizations in order to protect, care for, and uplift young children and their families.
-
Our Impacts
The unrestricted, multi-year operating grants we offer make it possible for our grantees, young children and families to dream, build financial stability and access power.
-
Long-Term Vision
Families have the power of self determination in a future world that values, recognizes, and celebrates human dignity.
Meet our grantees
These are the parents, advocates, and unsung leaders who have deep knowledge and personal experience mobilizing their communities across the country so that young children of all races, genders, and classes can thrive.
