Our Story
The Power Equity Council formed in 2022 when five national leaders in the field of early childhood came together to explore ways to elevate new and often under-resourced advocacy voices in states. These organizations represent deep experience in advocacy, grassroots organizing, elevating marginalized voices, and promoting new ways of philanthropy in state early childhood policy. They recognized they could use their influence to work collaboratively and build a broader base of power for families with young children.
In 2023, an unrestricted $10 million grant from Mackenzie Scott launched the Early Childhood Power Equity Fund, allowing the Council to identify and resource unsung heroes who fight for the kids and families in their communities. Additional operating support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation funded the planning and launch of the fund, ensuring the full $10-million will support 20 grantees for the next five years.
