The Early Childhood Power Equity Council
The Power Equity Council came together in 2022 to explore ways to elevate new and often under-resourced advocacy voices in states, They recognized the power of diverse voices working collaboratively and joined forces to build a broader base of power for families with young children. The Power Equity Fund was created in 2023 when the Alliance for Early Success received an unrestricted $10-million grant from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott and earmarked the entire gift for distribution by the council. Additional operating support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation funded the planning and launch of the fund, ensuring the full $10-million is passed through to grantees.
While the Alliance remains the fiscal intermediary for the fund, the Power Equity Council independently defined and directed the fund's grantmaking. The organizations on the council represent deep experience in grassroots organizing, elevating marginalized voices, and promoting new ways of philanthropy in state early childhood policy.
The council's member organizations are uniquely positioned to identify the organizations that are a match for the funding and the types of supports that expand their power and opportunity for impact.
